Entrepreneurship has always been an important idea to my family and friends. I like to surround myself with like-minded people who strive for more than just working for "the man," but work to turn themselves into "the man". Entrepreneurship is the process of designing, launching, and running a new business, typically a small business. My mother, Nichole Jackson, is the epitome of a serial entrepreneur.
After losing her job in 2008 as a result of the recession, my mom decided to go into business for herself. From 2008 until now, my mother has built an empire of 5 different businesses. She is the co-owner of a car dealership and a Tag and Title. She owns a travel agency, a brand management company, and she is a real-estate agent. My mother always tells me that the best decision she ever made for herself was launching her own business. She has a new-found confidence and strives to do more for her family every day. My mother uses her experiences to instill in me the confidence I need to run my own company one day. She always gives me advice and tries to guarantee that I learn from her mistakes. My mother has always been the inspiration I need to be a successful, independent woman in today's society.

I enrolled in ENT3003 because I never saw myself as someone who could run my own business as an entrepreneur, mainly because I never know where to start. I am hoping this class can help me become more confident in my ideas and executing them. I also would like to learn various ways to solve challenges for the everyday entrepreneur.

To turn yourself into “the man”. I love it. What a great role model your mom must be, and it sounds like she works her butt off. With an asset like your mom on your team I am confident you will find success in your own dreams. I would love to have a story like this that my kids can tell about me. Very inspirational and motivating. You can do it - go be “the man/woman”!!
ReplyDeleteHi Ashlyn! I think it is nice to see how you pointed out that your mother has a new found confidence after starting her own business. I am a strong believer that the greatest personal changes come from stepping out of your comfort zone, and I can bet that such decision of launching a new business was greatly out of her comfort zone. Such experiences teach you to trust yourself and be able to rely on yourself by practicing the act of relying on your instincts, seeing yourself get things done and seeing your hard work pay off. I am happy to hear that your mother has succeeded not only professionally but also in certain personal areas (like the confidence and striving to do more for her family every day.
ReplyDeleteHey, Ashlyn!
ReplyDeleteWow! What an incredible story!! Thank you for being some open in your post.
My family almost lost their business between 2008-2009. It was such tough time but Dad took us into the kitchen and explained everything. He wanted us to know what was going on. My older sister who was about 17 at the time looked at him and said, "we still have each other even if we lose everything else."
I'm so glad your mother made the decisions she did and has been successful. But more than that, I'm glad she has been open with you and encouraged you. It sounds like you also have her boldness and I'm sure that will serve you well! What a testimony to the American spirit and the drive of individuals such as your mother who reject the status quo and build a company themselves because they can.
